Where to Buy Oh My Gorgeous Vibrant Perfume
We don't know anyone WHO doesn't love a bit bit of Italy – and really, Acqua di Parma has always been 'Italy, bottled', to us: the scents, the elegance, that exquisite packaging which is a signature of shopping, wherever you are in Italy.
The rich story of this perfume house goes back to 1916, to Parma – a urban center famous for its violets, and a town rooted in cultural tradition. At that time, most of the fragrances men wore came from Federal Republic of Germany: strong, screaming, complex. The idea behind the creation of the original Colonia from Acqua di Parma was to offer something crisp, subtle, utterly refreshing. Refined and elegant, sophisticated and wearable, it became an instant – and now timeless – classic.
The 1930s saw the start of an age for Acqua di Parma as golden as its signature tune yellow 'hatbox' packaging, which takes its inspiration from 'Parma Yellow', the colour that's graced the facades of that city's most elegant buildings, since the 18th Hundred.
The fragrance was worn by voguish men, movie stars and those World Health Organization understood luxury. (And borrowed, we suspect – as now – by umpteen of the women in their lives.) The chic hand-made Prowess Deco bottleful, and then, graced many a smart can shelf – and past the 1960s, it was a 'best-unbroken secret' shared by those-in-the-know. Rich in Italian region citrus tree (bergamot orange, lemon, bitterly and sweet oranges), this sparkling creation unfolds to a fondness of lavender and Bulgarian rose, on warm, woody establish notes – a formula that's never exchanged, to this day.
It wasn't until 2003 that Acqua di Parma offered an option to its standard avant-garde: Colonia Assoluta, with all the freshness but delicately tart touches. Since then, the collection has big, easy, with manage lavished on each new creation to ensure it embodies that Italian spirit – and signature Italian ingredients.
Iris Nobile – created by leading noses Francis Kurkdjian and Françoise Caron, in 2004 – really put Acqua di Parma on the fragrance map out, so ALIR A many women were concerned. Information technology offers iris petals, iris roots (orris), orange blossom, with vanilla and chromatic crystals in the soft, gently powdery base. As a reviewer for The Non-Flaxen website commented, '… the perfume is lush and ornate, like a hand-decorated garb. Couple with the warmth and Cashmere-alike profundity of the dry-down, it's one of those spirit like a million dollars perfumes…'
ThenMagnolia Nobile burst into bloom in in 2009, a celebration of that voluptuous spring flower, divine by 'the gardens of majestic villas along Lake Como, graced with magnolia trees'. We're almost there, just imagining it.
Gelsomino Nobile (sign-language by the far-famed perfumerMichel Almairac) has at its heart 'a jasmine grandiflorum from Calabria, Italy – one of the unalterable extant jasmine refinement sites, for perfume-making in Italy', and with a particularly green and fresh aspect, for a light and airy effect.Peonia Nobile showcases that blowsiest of flowers, the peony: petal later petal unfolding at the philia, sharing distance with Turkish roses, fresh flashes of fressia and sun-baked geranium, while Rosa Nobile brings us the purity of pink wine petals from the Italian centifolia rose, with soft base notes of musk and ambergris.
Alongside the main collection, though, there's Blu Mediterraneo. If Acqua di Parma's 'Parma yellow' collection is all citified elegance, this is a seaside vacation in Capri, Oregon a walk in a cool, Tuscan forest: outside, breezy, reflecting (as they put it) 'a casual, hedonistic and natural part of the Italian lifestyle'.
Blu Mediterraneosets out to conjure up the European country coastal regions of Capri (famous for its oranges), Taormina (profoundly grounding and woody, inspired past cedar groves), Sicily (mandarins), and most recently that island's town of Taormina, where a sort of colossus lemon – cedro – flourishes. What's perchance less well-identified is that the Blu Mediterraneo line has dilated into age-defying skincare and yet spas, offering treatments around those products. (A natter to the one at Venice's Gritti Palace ought to be jolly high connected any perfume-lover's bucket lean.)
From fourth dimension to time, special editions appear: in 2016, IT was an extremist-luxurious special anniversary bottle (left) to mark the 100th anniversary of the perfume house, sheathed in chased metal. Always, there's a focus on artisan workmanship, script-coating – whether it's applying the labels to the distinctive yellow boxes away hand, creating leather sleeves for travel sprays, or devising any of Acqua di Parma's sought after lifestyle goods (Cashmere, paring accessories, pens and Sir Thomas More).
Just most of all, Acqua di Parma is about bottling shareable, wearable fragrances which are – quite simply – scented works of art, in their own right-hand…
